When you think of the term “luxury cars,” what may come to mind is a delicate, sleek auto that, while beautiful, doesn’t get very good gas mileage. Some people may feel as though luxury cars are not worth the expense because their functionality is not as good as that of a regular car. And for other brands, they might be right. But the Lincoln Motor Car Company is redefining luxury, and here are seven ways that they are doing so.
#1: Luxury cars can be powerful.
The Lincoln MKZ’s AWD model, when combined with its 3.0 GTDI engine that was tested with 93 octane fuel, gets 400 horsepower. The hybrid model gets 188. There is a stereotype that luxury cars are all about appearance, but in this case, when it’s time to hit the road, the Lincoln MKZ is as powerful as they come. It also gets 400 pounds of torque, and the dynamic vectoring system is easy to handle.
#2: Luxury cars can get good gas mileage.
The Lincoln MKZ gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 31 on the highway, shattering the perception that luxury cars aren’t able to have as good of gas mileage as their regular counterparts. The hybrid model is even more fuel efficient, getting 41mpg in the city and 38 on the highway.
#3: Luxury cars can be good for the environment.
Hybrid vehicles, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, are good for the environment because they rely less on fossil fuels and produce less carbon emission, helping keep the climate clean. A high-efficiency hybrid car emits less carbon dioxide than a regular car.
#4: The grille of a car can actually be aerodynamic.
When people think of other luxury cars, the image of a huge, bulky, shiny grille comes to mind. These grilles, while beautiful, probably aren’t very aerodynamic. However, the Lincoln MKZ has been redesigned with a newer, sleeker, more aerodynamic outer appearance. The grille of the MKZ tilts slightly upward, allowing for a clearer view of the Lincoln emblem. The grille isn’t oversized, but it’s as distinctive as ever.
#5: Luxury cars can handle well.
The Lincoln MKZ offers a “Driver’s Package,” which transfers power on demand to the driver, making the car easy to handle. The Lincoln MKZ drives smooth, and a new feature is the cruise control. Before this new version, the Lincoln MKZ’s cruise control would allow the car to slow down to 15mph before handing control back to the driver. But now, with this new one, the MKZ lets the driver come to a complete stop before ending the cruise control.
#6: An old brand can learn new tricks.
The Lincoln Motor Company has been around for nearly one hundred years, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t cutting-edge. The new technology used inside the Lincoln MKZ—the SYNC 3 system—contains new, responsive voice activation technology and a clearly-organized touch screen. Because the voice activation system is so responsive, you can keep your eyes on the road at all times, instead of fiddling around with the screen.
#7: Safety never has to be sacrificed for luxury.
The Lincoln MKZ has an available feature that reduces your risk of crashing. The Pre-Collision Pedestrian Detection uses radar technology to search for potential people walking around behind your car. It’s frightfully easy to lose someone in your blind spot and not see them, but the Lincoln MKZ’s new detection system prevents that.
The new Lincoln Motor cars are redefining luxury because they are proving that a luxury car doesn’t just need to have a beautiful appearance—it’s what’s on the inside that counts, too. The technology, safety features, smooth handling, and horsepower are some of the many reasons that Lincoln is one of the best carmakers around.
